What is Gait Analysis?

Gait analysis is a detailed evaluation of the human body in motion, (walking/running/sport specific) used to identify deviations in alignment, movement patterns, and symmetry. Gait analysis is used to assess and treat individuals with conditions affecting their ability to walk.
During your assessment, a Certified Pedorthist will conduct a detailed examination of your walking patterns (Gait) to aid in determining the biomechanical issues that affect your foot and lower extremities. Certified Pedorthists have specialized education in the biomechanics of human gait and can educate you on possible underlying causes of pain and instability.
Gait analysis can be conducted using either an insole pressure mapping system (Paralogg), pressure plate measurements (S-Plate), digital video recording, or visual observation by the clinician based on the severity of the condition.
